Types of Surveys

1/ Pre-Purchase Condition Survey

A pre-purchase survey is usually requested by a potential buyer who would like to know the quality of the boat he is intended to purchase.

We are focusing on the various aspects of the boat which have to be repaired or to be improved. This could come sometimes to a further negotiation with the vendor with a possible price reduction of the boat.

A pre purchase survey takes about a complete day of work for a 40 feet yacht. This includes an inspection of the underwater areas with the boat out of the water, a detailed inspection of the deck, topsides, accommodation, internal structures, navigation instruments, spars (from the deck) , machinery, sea trial at full power, safety equipment and report writing.

The survey report, which is completed usually within three working days, is a detailed report explaining the defects of the boat with photographs. We provide recommendations to remedy these defects.

The owner or the buyer is responsible for arranging the haul out of the vessel at an appropriate shipyard. We will assist them to organise this if required.

The operation of the boat during the sea trial and of all machinery and equipment on board are the responsibility of the owner or of his representative.

The surveyor is present to assess the performance of the vessel, and to report on items of her equipment and machinery to ensure full compliance and safety.

2/ Boat management

We are will follow, on your behalf, the progress of your boat refit or boat building with regular reports on the work done.

3/ Yacht Valuations

We are able to provide a vessel valuation, for arranging insurance, financing or as part of a settlement.

The valuation is based on the vessels condition and is compared to similar vessels of the same age at a given time and for a particular market.

4/ Consultancy Services

We offer a complete marine consultancy service.

From damage repairs, to additional work items on vessels, legal issues, and accident investigations.

We are dealing with a network of shipyard and experts to provide the best possible services.

5/ Expert Witness

We offer an experienced expert witness service for a multitude of reasons including disputes, insurance claims and many others as required by Hong Kong Commercial Lawyers.

6/ Hull Thickness Inspection

We offer a complete hull thickness inspection and report for steel and aluminium vessels.

Using professional equipment operated by qualified and trained personnel we are able to ascertain the exact thickness of the ship’s hull, paying particular attention to known problem areas, and provide a complete and detailed report for survey purposes, or as part of a routine or pre purchase inspection.

We will explain the reasons behind our methods and advise as how to proceed if any corroded areas are found, and how to prevent them in the future.

We are also able to use our equipment on GRP and composite hulls to find defects and delamination.
